Widow(er)s’ pensions for life: the appeal is rejected

The Court of Appeal handed down judgement on 21st December 2022. The appeal was not allowed, so there is no change to widows’ and widowers’ position.

Our appeal against the judgement in May was heard at the Court of Appeal (Queen’s Bench Division), sitting in Manchester on 30th November. Judgement was handed down on 21st December 2022.

The appeal was not allowed, so there is no change to widows’ and widowers’ position.

On the advice of counsel, NARPO will not be appealing to the Supreme Court, but will continue to campaign to persuade MPs and the public of the injustice of the current law.

NARPO’s press release is available on the national NARPO website, and the full judgement is published by the National Archives.
