Member of Rochdale Branch. Joined Manchester City Police in 1967 and served through Manchester and Salford Police and GMP, on 'B' and 'G' Divisions, Grey Mare Lane and Rochdale, retiring as a Uniform Inspector in November 1997.
Paul died on Tuesday 7th July 2026 at the age of 78.
He joined the Manchester City Police Force on bonfire night 1967 and went off to Bruche — in Paul’s own words, what a culture shock. Following force reorganisation he served in the Manchester and Salford Police from 1st April 1968 until 31st March 1974, before further reorganisation saw the inception of GMP, in which he served on the old ‘B’ Division in uniform and CID until his promotion to Sergeant in 1979, when he transferred to ‘G’ Division as a uniform Sergeant.
In 1982 Paul moved to Grey Mare Lane as a Detective Sergeant, before moving to Rochdale in 1991. He spent his last twelve months as a Uniform Inspector at Rochdale prior to retiring in November 1997. Paul said he enjoyed probably 95% of his time as a police officer.
