Reginald WILLIAMSON

Formerly of Manchester City Police, joining in 1961 and serving at Moss Side, Platt Lane and Chorlton-cum-Hardy. A Police Federation representative, awarded the Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1983.

Reg joined the Manchester City Police in 1961 and served in several stations across the city, including Moss Side, Platt Lane and Chorlton-cum-Hardy, where in 1971 he met Barbara, his wife of 51 years.

Reg was a very popular Police Federation representative. He represented the local Federation with speeches at the National Conference and lobbied for fairer pay awards, being interviewed on the subject by ITN News in 1979. He was awarded the Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1983. Having been injured in the line of duty, he was forced to retire from the job he loved in 1984.

Outside work, Reg loved spending time with his family — his four sons, Steven, Neil, Craig and Chris, and his grandchildren. He had a keen interest in football, as a lifelong supporter of Manchester City, and in cricket. He also enjoyed travelling, and spent part of his retirement living in Cyprus. Reg will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
